Weekly Menu: August 1-6

Oh the thrill! Tomatoes are ripe and in season at last. Peaches are crowding the fruit bowl. This is my favorite time of summer.

Sorry to desert you last week. We spent a wonderful weekend on Fire Island (not hot at all and pampered by most generous hosts) and in the post-getaway glow all planning went out the window. Throw the Mad Men premiere in there (we didn’t watch until Friday with Auntie Katie- those Mount Holyoke girls are whip smart, no?) and Magnolia’s birthday fest, and whoosh, there goes the week.

Now, we’re on hot on the heels of Jasper’s 6th birthday (Wednesday! more later) and vacation days…

CSA pick-up was over the weekend, and as mentioned earlier, the summer harvest is here. Tomatoes, cucumbers, peaches, huge heads of lettuce, sweet onions, delicious squash; it’s all on the menu this week.

Sunday: The summer fave: Pasta with Ripe Tomato, Garlic, Olive Oil & Basil. We may experiment with a lovely jar of pistachio pesto a friend brought from Rome.

Monday: Mad Men viewing party with Katie/CSA dinner fest. Thinking Lamb Kebabs with Tzatziki and Grilled Eggplant. Calling some Baklava??

Tuesday: Grilled Lemon Chicken and Sautéed Collard Greens. Alfred asked me today what my recipe is for the chicken. No idea. If you have an idea, bring it, peeps!

Wednesday: Burritoville. Summer Squash Edition.

Thursday: Pizza on the Grill

Friday & Saturday: Gone Fishin’!

Happy eating, folks.

P.S.: you kale loving gang. The kale chip idea has now been elevated to food heaven by so many of you that we are going to have to try it when we next get more kale.

P.P.S.: Anyone ever make beet chips? Sounds good, if nicely salted up. Send ideas.
