Weekly Menu, January 9-15

Yesterday was officially the last day of Christmas in our house. Today we’ll strip the tree, put away the lights and ornaments, take down the garland, fold the stockings away for next year. The new year will be officially here!

Is it bad to say I'm tired already?

I see everyone is trying to eat better, and yesterday at the Y with the kids, the lines for adult classes were long, everyone looking full of purpose and conviction. I’ve been thinking a lot about this eating better thing, and really came up with two or three things (more or less the same things that are always on my list): try to limit the amount of red meat we eat each week, pack more superfoods into our diets, and drink less wine. The first one I do pretty good with (except this week), the second and third could use some work.

The Menu (in which I fail spectacularly at food goal #1):

Sunday: Summer favorite Steamed Halibut with Juniper Berries rides again. Sautéed lemon-y green beans as a side.

Monday: Spaghetti & Meatballs courtesy of The Family Kitchen. I’m going to make the meatballs today so it’s especially no-fuss for Monday. Leafy green salad with simple vinaigrette.

Tuesday: Orecciette with Walnuts and Roasted Broccoli via Real Simple

Wednesday: Shiitake Mushroom, Black Bean & Spinach Burritos- an old favorite inspired by the now-defunct BEAN in Williamsburg

Thursday: Chicken Pot Pie a la The Pioneer Woman Cooks. Made the pie crust in a few minutes of down-time yesterday so we’re ready to go.

Friday: Fresh Orange Pork Tenderloin (from Dorie Greenspan’s Around My French Table) with her Broth Braised Potatoes & a side salad.

Saturday: Pizza night!
