Weekly Menu, February 6-12

I’ve decided I need a vacation from my weekend(s). Between this weekend and last it’s just been work work work around the house and birthday parties galore. I’m beat. We did manage to check a bunch of things off the 2011 To Do list last weekend when we had HandyDadNYC visit. Those things included FINALLY getting window guards up on the upper windows and reinstalling our giant red mailbox outside. Plus numerous little tasks not worth mentioning.

HandyDadNYC came to us via our great local coupon site, Doodle Deals. Is everyone else getting into these? We’ve bought a few deals and so far been nothing but pleased.

Speaking of the To Do list: I’ve decided it needs to be more specific where it can be. So instead of “see more movies” I’ve switched to “see one new movie in the theater every other month” and instead of read more books, I’ve switched to “read more non-work-related books.” Maybe we’ll check a few more things off the list if it’s more specific? Stay tuned.

On to the menu:

Maple Roasted Chicken, Photo by Sweet Paul

Last week’s Maple Roasted Chicken from Sweet Paul was a nice twist on our usual Sunday night roaster. The skin was dark and crisp and the vegetables delicious. Would definitely make it again. The meatballs I had frozen worked beautifully and made a quick weekday meal everyone enjoyed. Sadly, the Flounder Meunière did not happen. There’s something about my beloved Dorie Greenspan book: as simple as the recipes seem, we often don’t get to them. Not sure what is at work there.

This week we’ve got a few new things to try!

Sunday: Roast Chicken with Dijon Sauce click thru to see how gorgeous this looks on Smitten Kitchen—with sautéed green beans. I like that this is a cut-up chicken rather than whole.

Monday: Curry Spiced Noodles—which may or may not be a meatless dish for us—inspired by a recipe in the January Cooking Light.

Tuesday: Thai-ish Salmon via Dinner A Love Story. Hoping the kids go for it (it’s got coconut milk- what’s not to like?)

Wednesday: Shiitake Mushroom, Spinach and Black Bean Burritos

Thursday: Lemony Chicken Saltimbocca with Roast Leeks from the February Cooking Light

Friday: I’ve been dying to BRAISE something, so we’re trying Pork Shoulder Ragu over Paparadelle from Dinner A Love Story.

Saturday: We’re being entertained! The kids will have a mac & cheese and broccoli.

Have a great week!
